It is very important to wear the right clothing for your headshots. These images will represent you, your brand and your business. Please take a look at some of the following suggestions while putting your outfits together.
WHAT TO WEAR
Styling of headshot sessions can be a little difficult. You need to honor your personality, and at the same time realize that you are representing your business and need to be professional as well.
The style of your clothing should match the style of your business. Headshots are not often the stuffy headshots that they used to be. If you have a more corporate business, your images will be more traditional and formal, where if are a writer or realtor or designer, your images can be more informal with more personality. The important thing is that you look personable and professional and choose outfits accordingly.
As you think about your color palette, your clothing choices should match your branding colors. Bring some outfits in neutral tones and some with the colors on your website and in your logo to keep a consistency with your brand. White, creams, grays, blacks and navys are all good neutral colors.
The style of your outfits should also match the feel of your brand. For a more corporate look men, a jacket and tie are obvious. Other options are a jacket and button down without tie, a jacket with sweater or sweater over a button down. Dark pants. For women a jacket with a nice blouse and slacks to start and maybe a blouse or sweater for another look.
For a more casual professional look, blouses, sweaters, button downs, pants, skirts and dresses all look great. Try to keep any patterns to a minimum and a smaller pattern. Coordinating jewelry is fine for women.
For the basic headshot session. This session includes 2 changes. Feel free to bring up to 2 options and together we will choose what works best to represent you and give you options.
For the image builder session. The image builder is for those who need more variety and a complete cohesive package of images. This session includes up to 4 outfit changes. You can include props if needed for your website or marketing your business.
WHAT NOT TO WEAR
Make sure that your clothes are well fitted and not loose and wrinkled.
Do not wear anything with large or contrasting patterns such as florals or stripes. Any pattern should be subtle and small.
Avoid colors that are too bright and florescent.
